Clear Stains are a wonderful water sealer that allows the grain of the wood to show through. While this option repels water, it does not prevent ultraviolet rays from damaging the wood and needs to be reapplied yearly.

Semi-Transparent stains soak into the wood with some color. This option will last longer than a clear stain but still needs to be reapplied within two to three years.

Solid Stains are great for hiding discoloration, especially on older deck. A solid stain will last about 3 to 5 years.
